With its rounded shape and low growing nature Pittosporum Green Pillar is ideal as a hedging plant or as a feature plant in a container. Although if left unpruned it can reach a height of 5m,it is usually pruned back to around 2- 3m which seems to be its best height. Flowers are insignificant.
As for spacing it depends a little on the density of the hedge required. For a dense hedge look at planting ‘Green Pillar’ at around 1m apart. Growth rate is fast, at .5 – .75m a year until maturity when Green Pillar seems to slow down a little.
Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘green pillar’ has pale green foliage and black stems and are are widely used as screening plants. A a screen spacing is best at between 1 and 1.2m to create a dense lush look in 3 – 4 years.
